Vintage Machine in the Window of a Barber Shop

Clotilde, this looks like an autoclave, for sterilizing surgical instruments...back in the day of barber poles, I believe barbers were also surgeons.
What do you think it is?

Knifethrower - You know what? I have no idea! :) It had a few towels inside the round opening so I figured perhaps it was a towel-warmer apparatus, but it looks like it could do much more than that...

I think knifethrower is right, it's an autoclave.
Much more impressive than those little jars of purple liquid our barbers keep their combs and scissors in!
